we attended The New York Pops: Jim Henson's Musical World today, and it was incredible. first of all, that many people singing "Sing" together is just fantastic, and when i tell you that the finale was the cast of sesame street, most of the muppets you can think of off the top of your head, and PAUL friggin' WILLIAMS singing "Rainbow Connection" you will understand why i still have mascara pooling on my cheeks.
we were sitting directly under statler and waldorf, if that gives you any indication of how AMAZING our seats were.
the ny pops, essential voices usa, john tartaglia and the muppets performed all of the hits - there were fraggles, there was sesame street, there was muppet show & movies. it was truly a wonderful hour. i'm not sure penny was as enthralled as i was, but she was really an excuse for me to go (i used penny's aunt jodi like this for many years). i paid an obscene amount of money so that we had these exclusive seats, and went to a "family party" after the show. here is a photo which demonstrates our differing levels of excitement:
also one of the worst pictures of penny ever, but that is neither here nor there. |
"practice"? yes. did "frogs and dogs and bears and chickens and things" get mentioned twice? yes. was "mahna mahna" performed live? yes. did john tartaglia ask "how to get to sesame street" and sesame street's alan reply "practice" and john mutter "it's a running gag..."? yes. SO GOOOOOOOOD.
also, since alex is away at c2e2 this weekend, i was bored last night, and this happened:
