Dinner!

Penny invented and created her own dinner tonight. It's a half of a hard taco shell spread with hummus, with a piece of naan stuck on top. I told her that since it's her original recipe she gets to name it, so it's called Taco Hummus Bread.

Dentist!

Today we took a family trip to the dentist! Penny got to watch TV, when the light got too bright for her eyes they gave her a pair of sunglasses, and there was a fully stocked kids playroom. The dentist was super nice, counted all of Penny's teeth (there are 20), and told her she's doing a great job of brushing! Penny did not have the best time, but left thinking it was an overall good experience because they loaded her up with stickers, temporary tattoos and animal shaped flossers.

what a weekend!

our weekends have been a little more relaxed lately, but!  two birthday party weekend!  on saturday we woke up and told pennt that it was great grandma miriam's birthday party day.  "oh", said penny, "that means it's wolf encounter day".  no, no, we told her.  that's some other day.  but of course she was right.  we had completely forgotten that we had bought tickets for a family event at the museum of natural history, but luckily penny has the best memory of anyone we know.  we packed up and headed off to the museum where we saw a wonderful presenter and then met atka, an 11 year old grey wolf.  he stalked around the stage for a while as everyone ooohed and aahed, then he had his favorite treat - a banana.  how a wolf peels and eats a banana is pretty incredible, but even more incredible is that once he finished the banana, he put his front paws up on the podium, grabbed the presenter's chai, drank it and then gnawed on the paper cup.  super awesome.  we ate lunch at the museum and headed home.  by the time we got home, alex was feeling pretty sick.  we still had the party to attend in the afternoon, so after a couple of phone calls we switched our plans around a bit.  we ended up having a lovely time at the party.  penny loves hanging out with her cousins. and we were excited to spend time with my grandma.
today, alex was feeling better, and we all went to joshua's second birthday party at a gym in syosset.  penny got to wear a unitard she inherited from miranda, and she bounced, balanced, flipped and jumped to her heart's content.  we then drove to our friends' house to pick up some maternity clothes, because i no longer fit in pants.  of course, as soon as we got home i fell asleep and penny had a playdate downstairs.  alex had to head into work to cover the golden globes, and penny and i had some dinner and a bath!  what a fun, long, celebratory weekend!

12 weeks!

Here I am at 12 weeks feeling huge, but I looked back at the photos last time, when we started photos at 14 weeks, and I seem right on. I can't wait to get into some maternity pants. Also, it is really great to have a co-model. Can you tell she's super excited to be a big sister? She started, completely of her own volition, coloring and cutting out shapes and punching holes in them to make a mobile for the baby.

Facepaint!

We went to a birthday carnival today for two of Penny's classmates; and though she is usually terrified of facepaint, she totally went for it today!
