two months of Milo!

it always strikes me as odd when i post an "eight weeks" and a "two months" photo, but they are, of course, not at all the same.  i can't believe this little man has been in our lives for two months already!  he's totally a charmer, spending more time awake during the day, making adorable cooing noises, and starting to reach out and grasp things.  i'm working on getting him to sleep in his basket rather than in bed snuggled with me, but i am torn (and lazy).  on the one hand, the more he sleeps in there now, the easier the transition will be down the road, but on the other hand, he's a great snuggler, and it's so much easier to feed him when he is RIGHT THERE.  i'm sure it will all work out - for now, i am enjoying him so much.

Eight weeks of Milo!

Please see below for photos from today :)

So, I made Milo a sweater...

Most of you probably know by now that I have a thing for little old man clothes, so as soon as the weather started cooling down I couldn't help myself. Shawl collared oatmeal colored cardigan? Yes , please!
Luckily, it fits Milo perfectly, and he does not seem to mind wearing it. I think it is the very cutest thing ever!

being a grownup is hard, but being a 4 3/4 year old is much, much harder.

today is penny's 4 3/4 "birthday", something she has been looking forward to for a long time.  this morning i woke her up for school and she sleepily said to me "i am 4 3/4 now!"  we walked to school with noah, and i made them both stop playing their exploding shooting game as we entered (if this is way in the future, look it up).  penny has been having a rough time with missing us during the day, so i sent her with a photo of me & milo that she can look at.
when i came to pick her up, she asked me if she and a friend could have a playdate.  sounded great to me - having an activity for an hour would be awesome!  i headed to the playground with the girls while the other mom went to pick up her other kid.  penny was so excited running on the track that she completely faceplanted at full speed.  i was way behind because i had milo in the bjorn, but i got to her pretty quickly, scooped her up and carried her the rest of the way.  she told me, in the most pathetic voice you can imagine "i guess i just wasn't looking where i was going".  it took a minute or two, but she recovered pretty well and went off to play and climb - totally fine.  about two minutes later, the fellow mom came over and gave me a heartfelt apology - her son had misbehaved in school, and she had to bring him home to show him some consequences.  as a result, no playdate.  penny ran over to tell me she was working on the monkey bars, and i broke the bad news to her.  i suggested, as an alternative, maybe i take her for ice cream for her 4 3/4 birthday?  seemed like a good plan to penny!  she went over to tell the other mom, then went to say goodbye to her friend.  as she was coming back to me, she got full on kicked in the face by a girl dangling from the monkey bars.  not the other girl's fault at all, but she looked devastated, and penny could not believe it.
"i just don't think i'm ever going to stop getting hurt", she told me, as i did my best to comfort her.  we walked slowly and carefully to the ice cream truck, and managed to make it to the stoop with an ice cream cone with no further incident.  i told her that she'd better not fall out of her bed tonight.

I was straightening up Penny's room, and needed a place to put Milo so that I could use both hands. Et voila. Cuteness!

Kindergarten!

Penny started Kindergarten on Thursday, and she has had a great time so far.  They've eased the kids in with two half days, and she'll start her full day schedule tomorrow (Monday).  So far, according to her, they've had recess (which is a fancy word for playground), and that's about it.  Here she is telling Milo about it (moderated by yours truly):
Penny is a Kindergartner!  That's insane!  I don't understand how time moves so fast - it seems like only yesterday she was starting pre-school, and now here she is in a public school!  She has already had her first homework assignment, which we all worked on together over the weekend, and she handled it like a pro.  She's such a big girl, and I'm so proud of her!
First day!

There's only one baby in this family.

Milo's doctor appointment

Milo had his one month check up today, and we found out that he is 10 lbs 9.5 oz, and 22". Though this seems huge, he is right smack in the 50th percentile, so we have another totally average kid on our hands (in size, anyway).  He got his first shot as well, and he did not like it at all.  Penny came along on this visit, and she got to show off her big sister knowledge. We measured her on the doctors' ruler and found out that she is 41"!
On the way to the doctor, Penny asked me if they were going to weigh Milo, and I said yes. She asked if he was going to be lying down, and I said yes. She told me that this would tell the doctor that he weighed too much, because if you stand on the scale, it just weighs your feet, but if you're lying down it weighs all of your parts. I totally get why she thinks this, but could not explain it to her in the time we had, so I just said "That is an interesting theory, but I'm sure the doctors will figure it out". Total science mom fail.
